I often describe the arrival of our grandchildren to our home as a hurricane that comes through the front door. A welcome hurricane, but a loud, spinning, and tumbling storm. When they leave and the front door is closed, their departure is like a vacuum. The house is back to the quiet of just the two of us. The nest feels empty and peaceful again, and I immediately start planning for the next arrival of the grandchildren and kids. I love the chaos that they bring with them.
With so many little ones, I knew I wanted a place for them to be able to play and make memories with their cousins. The room that became the “play room” was originally planned to be just attic space that we were not going to build out. When meeting with our architect, he suggested a play room and I am so thankful he did. It has been worth the added cost to our construction budget. The kids can run and play, hide in the large bedroom closets, throw toys, and be kids.
I found this cute tepee on Amazon, this particular one is not available any longer but you may like this one of these, https://amzn.to/2ZBqxbh. The sofa was one we used prior to moving into our new home, and I found the denim covered chairs at Antiques at the Loop in Mobile. The PLAY letters are from Hobby Lobby and the toys are from many different sources. The coffee table was purchased from Wayfair. I used materials that were easy to clean and that would take the wear and tear from the kids. I want them to enjoy their space and not worry about crayon marks and dings in furniture. A link to the metal letters from Hobby Lobby is below.

I sure hope they remember these times spent at our home. I’m so thankful they all live close and we get to see them as often as we do.
